“It’s exactly what I wanted.”

That’s what I hear from our satisfied clients time and time again, but a beautiful home or work-space doesn’t just happen.  An amazing commercial or residential interior design comes from good planning.

Usually when I first consult with someone, they know what they want – but they don’t know how to make it come together ‘just right.’ I help bring your design need in focus – bring it to life, and use a detailed design plan to help ensure your project, your vision, comes together exactly the way you want.

Your Interior Design Plan

A comprehensive design plan should list everything that needs to be done for your design project. For example, you should include the materials you will need, color scheme decisions, furniture, lighting, and even timing priorities and budget. Be as specific as possible and write everything down.

I am here to help you create your design plan. Professional interior designers have the talent, experience and specialized knowledge to help you pull it all together, and help you save time and money while avoiding costly mistakes.

Based on my many years of experience, I’ve developed this list of easy and fun activities that help prepare you to best communicate your interests, needs and taste:

  • GATHER INSPIRATION. Start by visiting interior design and decorating web sites, or buying design and decor magazines.  Cut out or print out photographs of everything that appeals to you. What does this include? Anything that you like: furniture, appliances, color schemes, window treatments, accessories, carpeting/flooring, wall coverings, room layouts, etc. If you like it – put it in.

  • ORGANIZE. Put everything you collected into a notebook and organize it into sections for each room you want to update. You could even dedicate a notebook to one room and organize it so all the color schemes are in one place, furniture in another section and so on. This organization makes it easier for you to share your likes and dislikes with your designer.

  • EVALUATE.  Take a look at your present furnishing. What do you want to keep, eliminate, or re-do? Keep detailed notes in your notebook so you don’t forget an important idea or inspiration. Does the carpeting need to be replaced? What is your color-scheme? Which room do you want completed first? What budget have you set for your project(s).

None of these decisions are final, but gathering this information will make it easier for you to make decisions as you work with your interior designer.

Go on, get inspired! Right now you’re just coming up with ideas. Remember, your home should be a reflection of your tastes and lifestyle!
